§ 54-64. Vehicle weight limits.

  • (a)

    Overweight vehicles prohibited on designated streets. All trucks and motor vehicles with a gross weight of seven tons or more are prohibited from traveling at any time upon any street so designated.

    (b)

    Exception. The prohibition of subsection (a) of this section shall not apply where it is necessary and unavoidable to drive on a designated street for the purpose of the delivery and pickup of goods and materials, but in such cases, the vehicles shall be driven over the shortest route possible.

    (c)

    Designation of street postings. The board of public works and safety is directed to designate which streets are to be posted with the prohibition set forth in subsection (a) of this section. In making such designations, the board shall act in a manner consistent with public peace and public safety, and in a manner that will protect the streets from damage.

    (d)

    Erection of appropriate signs. The board of public works and safety is directed to cause appropriate signs to be erected notifying the public of the truck routes.

    (e)

    Violations; penalties. Any person who violates any of the provisions of this section shall be guilty of an offense.
